today i had to get up at 4:00 am to go observe a surgery. other than having to get up before the sun, it was an awesome experience. i got to see a back surgery. the doctor had to take two screws out of the patient's vertebrae and put three new ones in. the drill that they used to put in the screws was as big as my bedside lamp! it was insane. i did decide that i definitely don't want to be a surgery nurse. they don't really get to do anything fun. i want to get in there and get my hands dirty. anyway, it was a great day and i am deliriously tired.

I've always thought orthopedic surgery was just glorified carpentry, right down to the tools they use! It's just titanium instead of stainless steel! :)
