it's been a rough day

Today we got to babysit some of our favorite little girls. At lunchtime I decided to go run and get James and I a couple of sandwiches while James stayed with the girlies. So I get in my car and start to back out.

Do you see where this is going?

Yes I ran into the side of the Rushton's carport. Their carport is solid and looks exactly the same as it did before the run-in with my shiny silver saturn. I am infamous for running into poles while in reverse. I had a similar experience at James's parent's house with my old green saturn (that James now drives) and a basketball hoop, although the damage was not nearly as bad.

I don't know what goes through my head when I hear the screeching of wood and metal rubbing together, but I think it's something like, "Just rev the engine, but whatever you do don't hit the brakes!" It definitely isn't "Stop pressing the gas immediately!"

Thank goodness for USAA and their customer service skills. I was practically in tears (surprised?) while on the phone with the claims specialist and she comforted me, telling me that that is why they call these things "accidents", and that I sound really upset, and to not be too hard on myself.

Don't worry though, I held it together till I was home and then cried. I thought I was past the "I Just Had A Major Adrenaline Rush and If I Don't Get In A Fist Fight Then I Must Cry" phase. But nope, my adrenaline must be released in one of the two ways (punching or crying). It almost always (ok always) ends up being crying because I am little and if I punched someone I would probably end up getting my butt wooped.

Anyway, here are some pictures of the damage. I feel like such a dummy:

Then later I went outside to do some laundry because I had had a rough day and I wanted some fresh pillow cases that smelled like Downy to rest my head upon this evening, and I found this:

I have seen these spider before out of the corner of my eye while doing laundry. But it always runs away before I can get James to smash it. (Yeah right, like I'm going to smash it.) Thank goodness our washer and dryer are outside. I would not sleep at night if I knew that thing was in my house.
James was home, hallelujah, and smashed it for me; but only after taking pictures of it for documentation purposes such as this.

"Everything's fine, nobody is hurt, but..."

Last night as I was washing my face for bed I heard my phone ring. It was late and when I saw it was my good friend Christina I immediately thought someone was hurt. So I answered the phone. It took about three "hello's" for her to answer. And she was crying. Now I knew someone was hurt. Here's how the conversation went:

Me: Hello?..... Hello?...
C: Mary?
Me: (in a panic) what's going on?
C: you're going to think I am so silly.... there's a mouse in my house
Me: (relieved) do you need us to come over?
C: I think I'm going to throw up
Me: we're on our way
C: I just need James to come kill it or something

That's the gist of it. So James and I got in the car and drove over. We laughed hard about the predicament that poor Christina was in, sorry Christina.

This mouse was brave. It ate the peanut butter off the trap while James was right there on the floor and I was in the room too, on the phone with Christina's mom. I saw my first mouse-trap in action last night. I get the chills just thinking about it.

On the way home we laughed some more. James told me that if I ever call him past 10:30 pm to start the phone call with "everything is fine, nobody is hurt..."

Three Years

Three years ago today Jamesey and I were married. We were talking the other night about the highlights of these past three years:

  • moved to Midland
  • started a new career
  • started nursing school
  • made some incredible friends
  • welcomed a beautiful nephew and soon will welcome a (i'm sure) beautiful niece

Those are just a few.

We didn't really get to celebrate today, but we did have fun with Jakey. We went to the Midland Rockhounds game. Here are some pics:

this one's for you Nans

sorry mom, this was the best i could do. we couldn't wait for james to get home to take the pictures because we wanted to change out of our church clothes immediately. so the first one is done with the self-timer setting, and when that didn't work i decided to just take them myself. you can see how that turned out...

i knew this would happen

Seriously every time I get my car washed it rains here. I got it washed just a few days ago and the sprinklers hit my windows so bad that I could hardly see out of them. So yesterday Jacob couldn't take it anymore and made me go get it washed again. We had clear blue skies yesterday so I figured I would be okay for atleast a few days. But sure enough, last night at about midnight I woke up to the sound of roaring thunder and rain. The first thing that popped into my head was: "every time, every single time!!" I've decided to boycott washing my car all together. Out of spite.

Jakey and I went on a date today. He took me to see a movie. It was fun. He is a LOT taller than me. Sometimes it makes me sad when people ask who is the older sibling. He just turned 18 people! Anyway, fun day.

time-stealer

These dang things have been consuming my life for the past week, but I am pretty impressed with my work, if I do say so. This is a church project that I have been put in charge of. Two puzzles of the Australian flag, ...check.

summer fun

We took a trip to Houston to celebrate the 4th of July with my sissy and her beautiful fam. I was a big slacker in the picture taking department, but I did get one awesome picture of Gabe:Look closely at his hands... he has a toy gun in one, and a fairy wand in the other. So typical Gabey. And he insisted on putting his Halloween costume from last year on.

It was a really fun weekend trip. All the Snasel siblings were together. Driving back to Midland we had an extra passenger with us... my little brother Jacob. He is visiting us for a couple weeks and we are having a great time. Yesterday was Jakey's 18th birthday so we celebrated "McAllister style". Jacob got to pick what music we listened to in the car (AC/DC), what we had for dinner (spaghetti carbonara), what kind of cake he wanted (chocolate, of course), and what movie to watch at the end of the day (3:10 to Yuma.... I wasn't looking forward to this one, but it turned out to be awesome). Here are some pictures:
