birthday week, day 3

Today started out wonderfully. I slept in. Awesome. Got up and watched TV for hours. Awesome. Finally decided to take a shower. Awesome. As I was in the shower, I smelled something burning. I frantically turned off the shower, thinking that my curling iron was burning or something. It wasn't that. I went and opened the utility closet in our bathroom and the hot water heater was smoking and about to catch on fire. I went and grabbed the fire extinguisher, ready to put out a fire. I called our apartments and told them to send someone over asap. I went and got in my car and called my mommy and cried a lot. Thankfully, my house didn't catch on fire and the problem is fixed (hopefully). Things got a lot better when Jamesey got home. We hung out and then I went to the gym. A bunch of kids from nursing school met to do some classes. We did Gut Busters and Zumba. Hard stuff, but fun.

Now for the best part of my day. When I got home from the gym James had a present waiting for me! He got me a camera!! I am so thrilled! Here are the first pictures taken with this sweet gem:

Birthday week: Day 2

Today was wonderful. I went to school and learned how to insert and remove nasogastric tubes and also how to give enemas! Doesn't that sound like fun? Well it was. Anyway, after class I went to get my Halloween costume. Don't worry, I will post pictures on Saturday. I also tried to find a black dress and ended up getting James a sweater, my dad his birthday present, a black dress, and some shoes. Sounds successful right? After that I came home and watched lots of television: America's Next Top Model, Biggest Loser, Project Runway... How am I able to do all this, one may ask. I don't have class tomorrow. Yeehaw, birthday week just keeps getting better.

Birthday Week!

My birthday week has officially started! What is birthday week, one may ask. Well I will tell you. In James's family they start celebrating someone's birthday a week before the actual date. This way you get to party for a whole week instead of just one day. I get to choose TV shows that we watch, what we eat, what we do for date night... pretty much everything. It is freakin' awesome and I am very glad that I married into such a crazy cool family.

To kick things off today I joined the gym. I have been wanting to do this forever so finally today, on the first day of birthday week, I did it. I am going to kick the crap out of those eliptical machines!

not again!!

a car alarm has been going off for about a minute now. i hope this isn't like last time.

i got skills.

i had another skills check-off today. we had to insert and take out a catheter. i got to the school and forgot to bring a packet that i had to have, so i had to run back home and get it, which totally messed with my mojo. while i was doing the skill i was all frazzled, but i did it correctly and used perfect sterile technique. BOO YAH! me getting "pumped" for check-off

today i had to get up at 4:00 am to go observe a surgery. other than having to get up before the sun, it was an awesome experience. i got to see a back surgery. the doctor had to take two screws out of the patient's vertebrae and put three new ones in. the drill that they used to put in the screws was as big as my bedside lamp! it was insane. i did decide that i definitely don't want to be a surgery nurse. they don't really get to do anything fun. i want to get in there and get my hands dirty. anyway, it was a great day and i am deliriously tired.

what a great day

it's true today has been awesome. my class got cancelled today so i got to sleep in and do absolutely nothing all day long! it was bliss. i watched tabatha's salon takeover on bravo all day long, like i said, bliss. i did, however, do a few productive things today: i dusted my apartment and folded a load of laundry. yippee!

did anyone watch the office tonight? AMAZING! i freakin' love that show.

so, james just got home from basketball and was getting ready to take a shower when i was reminded of something. this is the conversation that followed:

me: i can't buy shampoo and conditioner in bulk anymore, cuz it makes my hair stupid.
james: it makes your hair stupid?
me: yeah, and it makes my face fat.
james: so it makes your hair stupid and your face fat?
me: yup
(so then james proceeds to push me out of the bathroom so that he can take a shower)
james: see ya later fat face.
me: (pretend cry and run away)
james: (runs after me) just kidding skinny face. i love you skinny face. see ya later skinny face.

i am a butt-bag

okay so i will admit that i have had a hard week. on monday i started clinicals... long story short, it was a really long day. i had a test on tuesday, a test on wednesday, and yesterday i had to put on a lovely skit with 5 other people about a patient with acute cholecystitis and atelectasis. sounds fun right? then today after working a nine hour day at the gap i will admit that i wasn't in a sunny mood. i got home and was immediately rude to my sweet hubby who is ALWAYS wonderful to me. so to get to the point of this large, long, and terrible story; i just wanted to tell my sweet little guy that i love the crap out of him. i know that i am a butt-bag more often than not, and that i am not an easy person to live with. and yet, you are always, always so good to me. so, here: have a picture of me eating spaghetti with a paper towel covering my shirt that i got from donating blood. i'm sorry and i love you.

i passed!!

i had my first ever skills check-off this morning. we had to come in the full nursing uniform which consists of hunter green scrubs with the midland college patch on the left shoulder, and white tennis shoes. the check-off was for medication administration. i had to show that i could give shots and calculate correct dosages. i was really nervous, but luckily my awesome teacher had a little bon jovi mix playing in the background as we tested!

austin trip

last weekend james and i went to austin to see carli, donny, and of course our babies! i loved seeing them. carli and i have so much fun together. we make the exact same ugly faces and have the same sense of humor, it's awesome. it makes it even better that james and donny get along so well. they love eachother, i know it. when james and i were dating i asked him if he considered donny one of his good friends. he of course had to make fun of me for asking that and wording it the way i did. now when james and donny are together, james always says, "mary, just so you know, i consider donny one of my good friends." wo- that was quite a tangent. anyway, back to austin. while james and i were driving down we knew we had to stop at some point to eat so we decided to text chacha to see where the best place to eat was. they recommended the auslander in fredericksburg. this is a cute little german town that we had no idea even existed. so we went and ate schnitzel and were on our way. nice job chacha. we finally got to austin and got lost trying to find carli and donny. so we stopped at the local target to wait for them while i entertained all the late-night-target-loiterers by jumping off ledges and falling down. the first day we were in austin the girls went to get pedicures and the boys went to the first University of Texas game of the season. sophi was jealous that she didn't get a pedicure so i offered to give her one. i even soaked and massaged her feet. she is such a girlie girl. the next day we went to downtown austin and walked around. i loved seeing downtown. it is so cute with so many fun shops. we ate at a mexican restaurant and then went to watch a bunch of bats fly out from under a bridge at sunset. anyway, we had fun, we saw our family. here are the pics:

and maybe the best pic of the whole weekend! james found this street sign and had to get a picture. before he walked over to pose for the picture he grabbed gabey and said, "i gotta have my namesake with me in this one!" gabe's middle name is james. we had so much fun. of course it was heartbreaking when we had to leave carli and donny and the babies, but it was worth it to see them for the weekend.

just wanted to let y'all know that i have made it through two weeks of nursing school! i love it. it is overwhelming and awesome!
